Now that winter is here, you may notice that your Waukesha, WI replacement windows are starting to get covered in ice and snow. This can interfere with your ability to see out of them as easily and can be frustrating. While in many cases the heat from your home will keep your windows clear if you notice a build-up of ice and snow on your windows and want to be able to remove it safely, be sure to keep some of these tips in mind to do so effectively.
Warm From The Inside
You don’t want to apply direct heat to your windows, but you can slowly heat them from the inside to melt the ice and snow on the outside. To do this simply direct your heater vents towards your windows. You can also turn on a space heater and use a fan to push the heat towards the windows. The heat will be gentle enough that it doesn’t break the windows but will be warm enough to melt the ice so you can see out your windows again.
Ice Scraper
You already use an ice scraper to clear the ice and snow from your car windows but you can also use it to clean the windows on your home as well. You will need to be careful and gentle when using a scraper to remove the ice on your windows. Don’t push too hard and make sure there is nothing on the scraper or the window that could cause the windows to become scraped or leave marks. Do it in straight sections and make sure you are making even scrapes and removing all the ice and snow on each window.
Damp Cloth
A damp cloth can also be used to wipe down the windows on the outside so they warm up and melt the ice and snow. Don’t make the cloth hot, but choose something slightly warmer than the temperature outside. You will need to work quickly to make sure your clothes don’t get cold while you are outside. The damp cloth will easily remove the ice from your windows so you see outside and get more out of them. Move-in up and down motions or small circles to remove the ice and snow without leaving streaks behind on your replacement windows.
